In March of 2010, I posted about biking in Massachusetts on my Hedonistic Equanimity web journal.
Massachusetts has lots and lots of bike committees.
This is an initiative for Winter 2010 from the Watertown Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee (alt link). Click here (PDF Format) for a printer friendly version of the following message.
Snow is starting to fall and winter shoveling becomes necessary. Watertown encourages all residents to shovel their sidewalks to enable pedestrians to walk safely . Remember, these are your neighbors: students walking to school, the elderly, disabled people and commuters going to the bus. If sidewalks aren’t shoveled pedestrians will walk in the street where they may be hit by cars.
Homeowners are required by ordinance to NOT pile snow from their driveways on sidewalks.
If you are unable to shovel the Watertown Senior Center provides a list of people who can do the shoveling. Call: 617-972-6490
All of us shoveling make Watertown a better place to live and work.
As part of acclimating myself to life as a resident of Watertown, I'm intent to get more involved with the local government.
In support of this goal, as of 08/31/2009 I have been appointed to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee. Meetings are the first Monday of every month. More details are available here
Also noteworthy is the abilty to get involved at the state level.
I'm not sure if it really counts as local involvement, but I made a specialized Google search that targets key Watertown websites. If you enter a simple search for something like "August festivals" it will return relevant local results. These are the sites that it crawls:
If you have any suggestions for links I can add to improve this search, e-mail me. Also, feel to post this search widget to your own website if you desire a quick and easy way to host your own powerful local search. Just "View Page Source" and copy the part that says "Google Custom Search Element".
